6.29.24 - 7.9.24 - Japan
A group of our Girl Scouts went on an incredible adventure to Japan. We flew 11 hours to Tokyo, then took a short flight to Osaka, Japan. Some of the highlights of our trip included:
visiting Dontonburi in Osaka for delicious food
went to an authentic Japanese Udon Noodle making class
met up with Girl Scouts of Japan Troop 18 where they taught us how to make daifuku and matcha tea plus we shared girl scout songs!
In Nara, we were outfitted in yukatas (which are lightweight summer kimonos) plus fed deer at the Nara Deer Park.
We hiked up to the Monkey Park in Arishiyama, Kyoto to see & feed wild macaque monkeys.
We experienced a rickshaw ride in the bamboo forest
we visited numerous Japan landmarks including temples and shrines
took a day trip to Hakone to sail on a pirate ship in the lake, took the Hakone Ropeway up the mountain to the Owakudani volcanic valley to sightsee and have lunch. We even saw Mt. Fuji!
spent the day at Tokyo Disneysea and went to the new Fantasy Springs area that had the new Frozen, Rapunzel and Peter Pan rides!
Plus, tried lots of delicious Japanese food!
1.13.24 - Santa Monica, CA
We participated in the Hostel International "Great Hostel Give Back"! Our troop spent the weekend in Santa Monica. We travelled on the Metrolink train from Oceanside to Los Angeles. Had lunch in Little Tokyo then onto the Metro light rail to Santa Monica. We stayed at the Santa Monica Hostel which was a few blocks from the pier. During the weekend we did two community service activities. We made cards for Veterans for the Santa Monica Elks Club and we did a Beach Clean Up with Heal the Bay. We also had a chance to see the sunset, bike ride on the boardwalk, go on rides on the Santa Monica Pier, visit the Getty Villa Museum and do a little shopping. Such a great trip full of travel skill experiences!
11.2023 Knott's Adventure
We had a weekend adventure up in Orange County. Our troop stayed at the GS Anaheim Program Center. We cooked dinner together then went to hang out in downtown Disney. The following day we went to Knotts Berry Farm.
10.2023 - Hostel Tour day trip
Have you been to a hostel? Our Scouts took a trip to a hostel in downtown San Diego to learn more about the Hostel experience. Hostels are a great low cost place to stay when travelling especially with a group. You can keep costs low when travelling by making your own meals in the community kitchen. You can also meet people from around the world at hostels.
7.2023 - Girl Scout National Convention, Orlando, Florida
Our troop's first big travel adventure! We flew on Southwest Airlines to Orlando, Florida for the Girl Scout National Convention! It was amazing to see all the Girl Scouts from across the nation and some international travelers as well. The convention exhibit hall had so many great booths with activities, patches and information on Girl Scout opportunities. While in Florida we also made trips to DisneyWorld and Universal Orlando!!
3.16.2023 - Catalina - Camp Emerald Bay
Our weekend in Catalina was amazing! We drove up to Long Beach and took a ferry to the Emerald Bay camp on Catalina. We stayed in a small cabin with bunks. There were so many fun activities to participate in such as snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, archery, art classes, Marine Science Center, stargazing and campfire. It was a great local island adventure!
01.2023 - Oceanside, CA
Local day trip to Oceanside pier. To practice our travel skills we took the Coaster train from Old Town to Oceanside (North County scouts took the Sprinter). We visited the Oceanside Surf Museum, Oceanside Pier and the Topgun house!
12.2022 - UTC Mall, La Jolla, CA
Learning some travel skills by taking local public transit. Our scouts travelled on the San Diego trolley from Old Town San Diego to the UTC mall. We went ice skating, shopping and had dessert.
10.2022 - Coronado Day Trip
Our first local travel skills day trip included travelling to Coronado Island. Our San Diego Scouts took the bus and our North County Scouts took the Coaster train to downtown where we all met to take the ferry to Coronado. While in Coronado we did some troop bonding and had dessert before travelling home.
9.11.2022 - First Troop 21 meeting
Our first meeting! We are looking forward to traveling with these scouts!
